CHANA ABRAMS

Founder And Director

Chana Abrams is the director and founder of Channing Law and is an energy project finance lawyer based in London. Chana focuses on advising developers, lenders, governments and investors on power projects in Africa.  She has advised on several first-in-country and other landmark projects in Africa. Chana has extensive experience in international energy projects, including expertise in project documents, finance documents and joint development arrangements and has worked extensively throughout Africa.

Notably, Chana was recently appointed as Legal Expert to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), an inter-governmental organisation in relation to the Open Solar Contract Initiative.  Chana held the pen on all six (6) contracts: PPA, Implementation, Supply, Installation, O&M and Financing.

Chana began her legal career by training and working at the “magic circle” law firm, Slaughter and May and subsequently at a leading law firm, Hertzog Fox (Tel-Aviv). Chana then served as General Counsel of a multinational renewable energy company developing projects in Africa. During her tenure as General Counsel, Chana worked on a diverse range of projects, including Rwanda’s first solar IPP and Burundi’s first IPP. Chana has also spent time as a Visiting Associate at a leading Nigerian law firm, Aluko & Oyebode.

ANJALEE MEAD

Senior Counsel

Anjalee’s expertise includes advising clients in both the energy and infrastructure sectors on finance agreements, project agreements, joint venture arrangements and commercial contracts.

Anjalee obtained a MA (Hons) Law from the University of Cambridge. Anjalee then moved across to Oxford to conclude her studies, which included reading for an MSc in Comparative Social Policy on a Rhodes Scholarship at Lincoln College. After completing her studies, Anjalee commenced her legal career at the London office of the magic circle law firm, Linklaters LLP and qualified into the Linklaters’ Energy and Infrastructure department in 2007 and continued to work for Linklaters until 2019.

Anjalee has worked on key African projects such as advising the South African Government on its coal IPP program and advising the IFC (as advisor to the Government of Zambia) on the Scaling Solar project.

Soniya Ambadkar

Associate

Following her degree at Cambridge University, Soniya trained and worked as a lawyer in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice at Clifford Chance in London focusing on energy and construction disputes.

She was previously seconded to the in-house legal team of an independent power producer, developing and operating power plants across Africa.

At Channing Law, in addition to supporting Chana and Anjalee on Project Agreements, Soniya’s practice will focus on construction claims and disputes.

Soniya has full working proficiency in English, Spanish and French.
