WHAT WE DO

Legal Expertise for the African Power, Energy and Construction Industry

We provide legal advice to sponsors,  developers, investors and financiers in emerging and frontier markets (with a focus on Africa) on energy and infrastructure projects.

The power sector is challenging and requires a law firm that understands the bankability requirements as well as the political landscape.

Much of the legal work depends on navigating through the politics / institutions and being at the forefront of cutting-edge, innovative solutions, rather than “precedent work”.

We have a broad range of experience on “greenfield” and acquisition projects and advise on all aspects of the legal documentation, in the
captive, storage, C&I and grid connected space.

IN-HOUSE LEGAL SERVICES

Having great technical lawyers is often a given.  However, few lawyers understand the legal landscape within which the client operates. For companies without a general counsel or legal department (or with an overworked legal department), Channing Law serves as an affordable and accessible part-time or interim in-house counsel on an as-needed basis.

Working onsite (or offsite) at the company, we effectively and efficiently address and manage the company’s projects, or on a project-specific basis so the management team can devote their time to the business. As internal counsel, Channing Law will provide legal management for a project, with in-depth understanding of the Project Documents. Having an internal lawyer ensures dedicated support for the duration of the contract.

We act as a liaison with the technical and commercial teams to ensure that the contracts are cohesive and that issues do not “fall between the cracks”. Our fee structure for internal legal services are tailored to meet the client’s needs. We offer competitive pricing which is significantly lower than the cost of employing a suitably qualified fulltime lawyer.
